According to the South Carolina Department of Education, only 46% of students in Georgetown County and 26% in Williamsburg County are reading at or above grade level by the third grade. Through their Mission: Read programs, Black River United Way (BRUW) is identifying and addressing student reading struggles from Kindergarten through 3rd grade through tutoring, facilitating community involvement in advancing a culture of literacy in local classrooms, and providing extra support in reading.
We'll be contributing a Let's Read box from each attendee! Each box includes books, resources, reading logs, incentive lists, and more. Your participation in this retreat is bigger than you...it has the power to serve the children of this community. Thank YOU!
